Swimming with the Mind of Meditation Practice #8

Here is the seventh sample from my next swim book: “Swimming with the Mind of Meditation” I will be releasing one each week for the next few weeks for a total of 8 practices. Each week the practices will get a little longer.
This practice includes the use of the tempo trainer by Finis. Set the tempo trainer to the third mode. Then determine your desired tempo as written below in the practice. A tempo of 1.30 is slower than a tempo of 1.20.

This set is to practice swimming with the whole body. Don”t struggle or force your movements, relax and move easy.
Check it out and give it a go!

#87 Tempo Experiment 2500

1 x 200 swim super slow with supple movements.

4 x 50 1) quick yet supple, 2) stretch the lead arm forward, 3) relaxed lead hand as it gets ready to catch, 4) anchor the lead arm. Rest 4-5 breathes. No tempo trainer yet.

3 {1 x 100, 2 x 50, 4 x 25. First set (1 x 100, 2 x 50, 4 x 25) all quick and supple movements-note strokes per length. Second set (1 x 100, 2 x 50, 4 x 25) extend, stretch our lead arm forward-note strokes per length. Third set (1 x 100, 2 x 50, 4 x 25) have a supple hand just before moving into the catch. Set the tempo trainer at a very comfy setting for you. Synchronize the tempo to your hips. Rest as needed. Take :30 seconds-1 minute between sets.

Change the tempo faster or slower depending on how the above went and repeat the main set again:

3 {1 x 100, 2 x 50,4 x 25. Synchronize the tempo to your hips. Rest as needed. Take :30 seconds-1 minute between sets.

4 x 50 focus on a soft hand for the catch. Pitch the elbow up and forward to anchor. Rest as needed between 50’s. Turn the tempo trainer off for this.

1 x 100 swim quietly, supple movements.

Notes: Using the tempo trainer, set it to a tempo that feels a little quick for you, just a little outside your comfort zone, but not too fast that your stroke feels like it is falling apart. Intention is using a few different focuses in throughout the swim, but all at the same time, keep them separate.
