(This is the second guest blog from Athlete Terri Bower, who is now preparing for Ironman with the aim to qualify for Kona 2019. Terri participated this July in the ITU-International Triathlon Union-World Championship. Athletes have to qualify then travel to compete representing their home country. Terri raced for Team USA Triathlon.)
The ITU Worlds Experience
“Being part of Team USA was like nothing else. If you ever get the chance, go!
I can’t tell you how proud I was to wear the team uniform and race kit. One not only competes as an individual, but as part of a National Team. Passing under the finish banner, hearing my name and “from the USA” brought me to tears!
The Team USA social events, as well as the Parade of Nations gave athletes a chance to meet and make new life-long friends. Competing in another country gave us a completely different perspective than we would experience as a tourist; swimming, riding, running the course was an intimate view of the place and people.
Remember to put your race number on right side up!
Its not a ‘inexpensive’ vacation, but worth it to be sure!”
